Layered Cracker Cheese Cake aka Kek Lapis Cheese Persona

Ive been meaning to try this recipe ever since..

Just never got to doing it..

Went to my aunts for christmas and my sis and I, guess we finished half the tray of this delicious cake.. :)

Im making Crackers Layer Cake... or well.. dunno how else to translate it.. its similar to making tiramisu, the one i made before with ladies finger / boudoir... but this one.. im not sure hows it goin to look when its done...

i had a few difficulties in deciding hw thick each layer of cream cheese should be..

Basically this recipe is a layer of crackers (saltcrackers) and a layer of cream cheese, then set for chilling and done..!

recipe as below;

for the cream fillings;

500grams of Cream Cheese

10 - 30 mL of full cream milk

half cup of sugar

for the crackers;

2 packs of saltcheese crackers (By Khong Guan)

a bowl of warm full cream milk

all you need to do is beat the cream cheese with the sugar till its a lil fluffy, then, add the milk bit by bit.. til its looking a lil creamier in texture.. leave aside...

once your filling is done, soak each cracker in the warm milk for a second or two, then put it at the base of your tray.. arrange it piece by piece.. then put a layer of cream cheese on top.. then layer all over again wit this crackers.. remember to soak them just a while.. not too soggy ei..

once all this done.. (im not sure how many layers.. this is my first attempt hey.. :p so.. im experimenting still.. im sure.. its to your liking tho..)

Soak em crackers in warm milk... ei.. just a sec or two..

then your crackers a layer.. do it alternatively as to when u cut it.. it will have a wonderful pattern.. :)

This one is done with Marie biscuits.. chocolate flavour.. mine is with saltcheese.. :)

Bread Pudding :)

tis.. moi first attempt in making bread pudding..

ive never tried... eaten it in a few restaurants and some party.. but.. never thought of doin it myself.. :)

so tis.,,,,the first attempt ei~~ :)

the recipe says.. grease the pan..

more butter, the better~~

so... this is actually, a mixture of 4 egss and 4 teaspoon of sugar and 4 teaspoon of butter..

(i blended it in a blender, coz the lady -whom i'll mention later said to just blend it instead using the mixer.. so what the heck~~ hehehe..)

then pour all the mixture into this greased pan..

on an earlier notion, soak 7-8 pieces of bread in full cream milk, like about 500-600mL of milk.. or enough just to soak em..

it will get soggy, so just bear with it.. its OK.. dont panic~

Lastly.. arrange the bread as you like piece by piece unto the mixture you've set earlier on.. some other recipes show that you should cut the bread into pieces but i'd rather stick to this.. :)

Bake @ 180 Deg C for 40 Mins! ;)

Its to be served with custard sauce or vanilla sauce but u could eat it on its own as well - either freshly hot from the oven or.. cool it first..

Its the second day of the New Year..

2012

We thought, ah swell, we havent really splurge jz for the sake of our bellies esp for this new year.. so we gonna sacrifice our bellies for the month and at least eat out togeda..

Well, actually i have been to Shashaki many times since last year..

But kinda never bothered to take pics coz.. everytime im there i'd be tooooo hungry..

Well, Shashaki Japanese Steamboat Restaurant is no different than any other Steamboat Restaurant in town (but non compared to KUCHING's Steamboatsssss! sigh.. i miss Kuching..)..

The only BIG difference is that it doesnt have a grilling pot.. so, all you can eat is highly healthy choices (well, except your seafood high cholestrol choices) which would be boiled to your best liking - really boiled squishy mooshie or just nice, anyways just the way you like it..

there are loads of sushi selections though, although many would overate sushi, saying that this is nice, that is nice, or SUSHI KING is better.. Well, how would you really know unless you've been to Japan and even eat FUGU (raw blowfish!!) and raw freeeesh Salmon and Tuna fresh from the glass aquarium in front of ya.. ??

So, in my opinion, Shashaki makes quite a hand of sushi choices, some nice jello shots (non alcoholic), delectable fried finger food, some fresh seafood (when i say some, the crab stank the last time i went there, the squid was awesome tho, fillet fish and green mussels..) and loadss of salami - beef/chicken.. )...

They have a choice of non-carbonated drinks: honey lemon & iced lemon tea & plain water of course.. followed by a big pot of 'soup-of-the-day' (the last time was sweet soup - red bean) and fried rice (which was quite good ei..) and oh yea.. You would be boiling/dipping your selected choices (from the conveyor belt/dish train) of Tom Yam soup or Chicken Soup. Those who likes spicy - it aint spicy enuff AT ALL! So bring along yer own Chillie! :p or Tom Yam paste.. to add to it..

My choice : Salami was awesome, loved the Jello Shots added it with the icecream choices (vanilla, Chocolate, and another two - mint and strawberry i guess), loved the squid and the sushi was nice.. Top it up with Honey Lime drink and i was contented.

Reminder : Bring yer own tissue, coz they charged fer the tissue they have.. :)

Price : RM28.90 per person this time i went on a public holiday... 2/01/2012.. price varies with time and day.. Be on the look out for promotion, it would go as low as Rm15/person.. :)

there was a death in the family, my Uncle passed away..

Deepest condolence to his family and everyone.. :(

We were prepared for Christmas but the mood was not there anymore especially in our own house..

So.. we had closest relatives came by and just had a family gathering..

It was suppose to be a wedding cake for my sis in law & bro, but the tier broke and we couldnt present it well..

During wedding preps, everything crumbles unplanned, i was devastated but i couldnt come up with a solution, thus presentin this masterpiece on the table likee this...

I made this cake and cupcakes to accompany the 4-tiered wedding cake.. :)

But nevertheless, i was happy that the nite went thru.. even when this cake was unpresentable.. :(

Hola all.. regret to say this, but christmas was kind of a disaster this year.. I was sick the whole nite and most of the last minute baking and what not wasnt done.. :( However, i did manage to baked those japanese cheese cakes and made some chilled cheese cake to present to the Carmelite Church and the main church. That was the most important of it all.

Christmas wasnt like this before, it used to be grander, i guessed with the old house gone, and the little space the new house had to offer, we come by pretty well just alone. In the end, mum and I just passed christmas away. My elder brother wasnt around to celebrate it with us too, so we didnt see the reason for celebration. But we had my boyfriend this year, and he was a dear for being with me this christmas, coz we needed a 'guy' with us at home, it feels safer to have a guy managing sometimes. It feels complete.

Christmas wasnt really a disaster tho. We ended up at my aunt's place and brought a few friends along, had some food and drinks and danced away the nite. Well2, thats about it.. no pictures to show but christmas was subtle this year, just nice. No fuss & etc.. :) It was filled with love tho, and that was important.

New year was a blast last nyte, sometimes i missed the moments when my dad used to bring us to such grand places, eat such grand food, dressed up and dolled up for all these occasions. Without dad, we're just normal people, loving the show from the side, or rather staying at home, cuddle up to a movie and thats about it for new year. This year, as my boyfriend would say, 'entering the new year in style~~~'. Im at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Brunei, with all the blessings of his brother and family, im here to celebrate with them and yes, with my beloved boyfriend as well. Last nyte, the new year was welcomed with a massive balloon drop from the top of main room, it was great~ never thought a crowd would really cheer and appreciate balloons falling from the ceiling, well yeah, i have to admit it was amazing~~~ :) music was there, but no one was dancing, i guess bruneians dont dance? afterwards, the fireworks by the beach area was AWESOME.. i was too amazed to capture any shots.. or rather good shots (im starting to dislike my old cam, when can i get a new one??).. I didnt know which was better, to catch a pic or get a vid, the pic seems horrid coz of the poor quality.. so i got a vid.. (which was also poor in quality.. haha)..Im still here now, at the hotel, with his nephews, (they call me BIG MOMMA).. im starting to like the name tho~ it suits me in a way~~ hahaa.. We'll be leaving tomoro. This place has everything complete, its own cine, park etc~ awesome, thats the only word for it.. awesome~~

Being Mixed Blood..

Being born of mixed parentage, having the dear pleasures and courtesies of two cultures, i must be one of the luckiest girl on earth. Well, at least at times i do feel i belong somewhere, i wont complain or say anything bad this time, all i want to say now is that im thankful that i could enjoy the pleasures of being with my kenyah family and yes with my Indian family no matter how little time i had to enjoy and embrace the Indian in me. Haha.

Being a mix in a kenyah family, i get these remarks often tho : 'WAhhhh! That girl is so huge, so black, so big, so fat' well i used to put on a sour face, and sometimes even yell back and scold them back or go away and grunt or any other bad responses you can think of. But now.. now.. you know now, i'll just smile and say, 'Hey, im fat, so what? Im fat but i know im prettier than you, coz i have sexy ***** and ***** and you dun have these lovely eyelashes that you all want' hahaha~~ It feels better to answer this way, and it feels good somehow to see them laugh back at the confidence i have. I guess all this while i didnt learn to love myself as much as possible.. :) Knowing that i could get away from this situation like this, i feel better and yes proud of myself. Plus, bammm! when i answer them back in KENYAH, in MY MUM's LANGUAGE.. hahahaha~~ laugh all you want, MIRA will just laugh at you back~~ :p watchhhaa~~

This is kinda a late post, but am posting it up anyways! :)

Was in KL for deepavali and spent a splendid one there.

Im a mix of kenyah and indian, but my life has been more exposed to my mum's side, kenyah that is.

I have often wished and wondered what it's like to have a real indian family (yes i do love the culture, colours, food!) but im a Sarawakian and there's not much Indians here, well if there is any, the ones i know are mostly mixed like myself.

So, when i actually get to mix around with real-pure indians.. (yes, im quite left out, especially not knowing 1. the language, 2. most of the cultures, 3. some traditional food.. hehe..

I guess i dont look too Indian.. not many indian features i guess, apart from the been-told extravagant eyelashes, big eyes, and slightly sharp nose.. and yes, the skin colour.. some says i look like malay the most~ haha..:p

Well, my wish came true this year, Ive got what i always wanted, a splendid experience in a real Indian family home, waking up to a real Deepavali morning, spending time with real indian relatives (not mine, but sure feels like it) and yes, indian food cooked by real indians are alwayssss the best! :) Cheerios and have fun with the pictures! :)

Can you believe that i stop blogging a while coz i thought that im eating too much..

Can you believe that i have only been munching on these all this while?

Coz am trying to lose weight?

DONT DO THIS AT HOME.. or ANYWHERE ELSE..

COZ it doesn't work..

IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL...

Haha.. Am kidding.. have not been munching on these alone..

Had tried partially starving myself..

Sometimes skipping lunch - like having nothing at all..

But i do take heavy breakfast at times.. if u consider milo and biscuits heavy..

or some noodle soup in the morning...

And skipping dinner, and eating oats at 3 in the afternoon..

still

.....

....

...

IT DOESNT WORK..

with this starvation mode,

i only tend to eat more

without realising it at the end of the week..

SO.. my suggestion is that..

YES. continue this diet regime (because after a week, i dont really have the urge at all to eat as much as i do)

and...... you'd start eating your heart out...

you'd be eating thissss...

and roasting this......

awww... terrible rite? hahahaha~~

It helps as in guide you on the amount of calories you are taking in each food.

Register an account there, and you will get a free chart for you to list down all the food you take in a day and have a complete list on their calory amount as well. (They will also guide and tell you on how many calories you SHOULD take in a day)

Another good thing about the site is that it helps arrange exercise routines for you.

BUT be true to yourself and follow what is planned.

I KNOW...

after a while you will get tired of it..

But trust me..

It will help especially in the first two weeks..

You'd see a change in the cravings for food that you had all this while..

I do jog in the mornings

but people like me (i mean over obese and lazy)

tend to be lazy about this..

My routines for these are particularly..

jogs three times a week in the weeeee early mornin (coz i hate ppl watching me jog.. you know i go bounce bounce bounce - if u knw wat i mean..)

then i'd do my sit ups to lose my ever sooooo HUGE tummy (at least three times a weekkk which is also soooo hard to do at first..)

then a swim twice a week too..

this is all i can do at the mo... am trying my best tho..:p

but will strive more..

I wish to have a bodacious body.. before i get married! hahahaha!

and yeah, healthwise too..

am starting to feel too tired easily and missing out on the fun i used to have all this while.. :(

God grant me the strength~~ hahah.. and follow me thru..

Labuan Day 1

Well, there's nothing much i can say. Travelling & supervising for 3 other male staffs (yes, im the only gurl) on work is no food opportunity at all for me. Stuck in a situation like this, there's no grand or at least some yummy dishes i can get my hands on~~ I had mixed rice for lunch (a lil of this and that) and hot soup with plain rice for dinner~~ boring rite~? hehe.. sorie all, no lovely food pics tonite~ just some pics of the wonder-wonderful clouds i took from the plane on the way here.. Hope u love them as much as i do coz they sure look like cotton candy!! :) yummeyh! =)

It's been a while dining out, when i get the chance to, everything is wallop all at once.. HAHA.. so, dont blame me coz i didnt get a photo to blog about~~ (thats actually one of the reasons why i havent blog lately~~).

We (colleagues) went for dinner the other day, and spotted Sajian Warisan on our way to Parkson, Im sure many of us Mirian's know the place, its really fancy, the seating and all, looks almost like TRIVOLY GARDEN (in kuching). My whole childhood life here, there arent many fancy looking shops where ppl like us (i mean teenagers and cool-be's like us) where we can just hang out after we finish up our call grand dinner. Its me maybe... i love hanging on after dinner and adding a cup or two of coffee or some fresh lime juice to ease my tummy~

We had basic food which was white rice, tomyam soup (seafood & vege) - delicious! my kind of sour as well as my kind of spicyness! , local vege which was Midin belacan, Sweet & Sour Chicken (which was not really good - the chicken itself taste sour), butter prawns and 'ikan sebelah' or rather its english name 'flounder' cooked in three sauces~ :) (sauce in plural sauces? erk?) Every dish was washed down with flavoured lassi (yoghurt) drinks. :)

I was in Labuan a few days ago.. Pretty much about 5 years or so since i havent been in the area since then.. Was great reminiscing the old times, the places i used to go, eat, shop and much more.. Was the first landmark away from home since the end of my high school years. It was a year of study, but seriously the year had taught me much to carry on as well strive on the later years.

Well, was to labuan on a work visit actually, went to check out the warehouse my company owns over there. I gotta say, we do own a lot of stuff.. seriously... so.. more work for me.. :( tonnes of listings to do! uhuhuu...

Well, enuff on work, enjoy the food post. We had our digs on crabs! :) there's this place call 'anjung ketam' there, and u get cheap prices for a kilogram of crab! any style of cooking too! :) We had a kilo of chillie crab. Delicious yummy sweet and spicy sauce over the crab! WOW! :) unimaginable!

Yuhuuuu crab lovers! Envy me please! :)

Hello all! Its been about i guess a month plus since my last post. Regret to be saying this all the time, but i do want to sincerely apologize, really! =)

I've been busy with the set up of another blog which is just really an online blog shop. I started having some or maybe a lil passion for women's clothing. So far, well, guess its good! GOOOoooOD! Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet

Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet

For fish fillet...

1. Fish Fillet (i use dory fillets..usually two large strip )

2. 1 egg

3. 3 tbs of corn flour

For sauce...

4. Some ginger

3. Garlic

4. Onion

5. Chillie sauce

6. Button Mushroom

7. Oyster Sauce

8. Soy Sauce

9. Sugar

10. Sunquick Lemon juice

11. Salt

.slice fish fillets into long, semi thick strips (u dont want it to be too thin, coz it would tend to break into pieces when you fry it later).

.break 1 egg and mix with corn flour and a lil salt.

.fry the strips in hot oil and put aside.

.for the sauce, fry the onion, garlic and ginger together.

.toss in the mushrooms.

.add 4-5 tbs of chillie sauce, 2 tbs of oyster sauce and a lil soy sauce & 1 tsp of sunquick lemon .

.if seasoning is enough, its ok not to add the sugar n salt.

.if you'd like, you can just toss in all the fish strips into the sauce or you can just pour the sauce over the fish fillet itself.

.last but not least, enjoy! :) .

Giant Fruit Juice @ Tanjung Aru Beach, KK

This is Tanjung Aru (Beach 1).. Well, there are lots of beach point to go to (thus the name 'Beach 1'), but according to my source (hehehe.. its Malinda..) she said that, this beach point is famous for sighsteeing, relaxing with your loved ones, swimming.. and....... you'll soon to find out.. hahaha.. eating of course!

When i was back in pre-U, i had my own adventures, i went on my own trips, took the bus up to the jetty point in Labuan, went on the boat ride from Labuan to Menumbok, train to Beaufort, then bus to KK... yes i know.. i was only 17++ and was so daring.. given the chance again, will i do it again?? Yes! haha.. i just love adventures! Well, back to the main story, my roommate used to bring me to this really special spot! its was the JERUK spot..! (jeruk means preserved fruits - all kinds - some are preserve just a short while, so fruits like mangoes, papayas are still fresh and crisp with that lil sweet soury salty taste!) I just love jeruks, so i was practically begging Malinda to get me there, and being the dear she was, she brought me there!! Thanks and loads of love dear! :)

The jeruk stall!! :) there were at least 5 stalls selling this super delicious jeruk.. :) i couldnt make up my mind, i just wanted everything, and Rm1 or Rm2 of this jeruk equals to a handful packet of it (depending on its kind of course), i grabbed the long green mango slices, papaya, half ripe yellow mangoes, and even a whole jeruk guava! :) hahaha.. i was so crazy, if given the chance, the stomach and yes, the will, i'd eat all of it... :p

Not forgetting peanuts! :) hehe.. this is great while you watch sunset! :p

You could see here, there's a stretch of people, just relaxing, lay back enjoying the beach, seabreeze..... while munching away! :)

There was a foodcourt just nearby selling fruit juice, food, satay, chicken wings and etc.. so i decided to have a go on one of their fruit juices.. how can you resist? tell me, please.. with all those displays of fruits there.. ! :p wink wink..

I spots a guy with his fancy camera.. oh ya, this is one of the spots for photo shooting too, Malinda says that the beach is a famous spot for weddings, and etc.. :)

When we were done munching, you'd just need something to quench that thirst ok.. so, lets try the fruit juice here i thought.. it was just RM4 for a large one and Rm3 for a regular one.. So i thought.. whats a difference of Rm1 gonna make anyway?

This is the difference!! it was HUGE!! this is officially my first finding of GIANT fruit juice! LOL! :P

Behind the stalls were the smoking area.. haha.. literally i name it smoking area coz, yes this is where there smoked the chicken wings and satay! You can see here that its a whole stretch of panggang stalls .. :)

Hehehe, basically this was food trip i guess. haha..! more to come in the next post! :)

Jalan-Jalan Around KK

There was so little time yet there were loads of places to see, loads of food to eat! haha.. :) My dearest friend Malinda, was courteous enough to bring me to one of the hottest spots in KK, which was the 1Borneo Hypermall. This hypermall is one of the largest hypermall in Sabah as well as East Malaysia. Equipped with eateries, boutiques, factory outlet stores, hotels! --- EVERYTHING was there. :) I had the chance to even watched a cultural performance by one of the local cultural groups and it was FUN! :) I dont want to waste your time on my shopping spree so.. i thought it would be cool to show you the dance instead! :) Note that there are differences in culture between Sabah and Sarawak - be it their traditional costume, food, dances, belief and many more. One thing in particular that i like about the Sabahan traditional dances is the really fast dance (which involves dancing and slight jumping) and bamboos! I hope you can watch the video! enjoy! :) Then you'll get what i mean! :)

Fish & Co's Ice Cream and Choc Fudge!

Holla all! Im in KK (Kota Kinabalu) rite now, am enjoying the last nite here, had a really fun stay here with a good friend of mine, Malinda Auluck. Out of her bz schedule, she brought me around KK, and of coz, around the food world of KK too!

During my second day in KK, we went to the One Borneo Shopping Complex, and it was huge! (I ended up with sore feet.. hehe.. a worthwhile sore feet of course!). Fish & Co's Ice cream and Choc Fudge was awesome! :) I would recommend it to all you viewers out there, the fudge was served hot and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Basically, you would be assuming the fudge would be too sweet to go with ice cream, but apparently this fudge was just nice. You should really try it.

Apart from that, i had a glass of pink passion (mocktail of guava juice and some soda) and the seafood masala pizza. I would not recommend the masala pizza as the dough itself was really not up to my liking. The dough was similar with the puff pastry kind, nothing like a normal pizza dough. The impression i had after having it was like i was eating pastry and not pizza! hehe.. But apart from that, the fudge was too awesome to cause a frown on my face! :)

Do you know what Lok! Lok! is?

Well, to tell you the truth i was pretty suprise when i first knew about it.

It doesn't really relate to the name itself (maybe it means something in another language? - im not sure.. hehe..)

Its really a simple dish or could i even say finger food...which is prepared for 'lepak-ers' or chill-ers or for just anyone who wants to hang out with a bunch of friend.. :) and yes, for normal people too~~~

Apparently Lok! Lok! is actually similar to steam-boat but we exclude drinking the soup!

Well, you can get various types of food on sticks (fishballs, crab balls, meat balls, tauhu, crabs, and even vegies, etc) and what they do is, boil them a while or blanche them (usually vegies) a while in a pot of steaming plain or flavored (seasoned with a lil pepper & salt - thats all) water.

There is a special sauce prepared by the owner as well as a dip for all the Lok! Lok's! u ordered. :)

When i was back in uni (Kuching), i went out at nites a lot just to sit and relax with friends, catching up on loads of stuffs.. The best place for me in Kuching was at the hill top (where Marina dangdut used to be) down town, locals in Kuching would definitely know this place - they sell great nasi lemak here with chicken curry too! Late nite clubbers would surely stop by for a refreshing drink of 'air mata kucing' and yes, to eat too!

It is plain and simple, yet delicious in a way. I'd vote that, it's probably because of the crowd and atmosphere which makes us want to sit and try this plain yet simple dish~

coz, in my opinion for a plate (about Rm1 to 2 per stick) of Lok! Lok! i cud even buy myself a huge pack of fishballs and get them ready at home and eat while watching my favourite tv show~ or korean drama!! hehehe~~

Well, for what's it worth, i do enjoy this when i have a bunch of friends around and it goes well with a whole pot of gossip too! :)

Well.. You would be wondering why is there a picture of this HUGE fan here rite?? Well, this is E-mart in Miri, the only place where you can see this really enormous looking fan haha.. You could get almost everything at E-mart, shopping for clothes, shoes, food, market stuff - wet/dry and so much more, its like a warehouse.

This is a real puffer fish, they'd preserved it and :) it looks so adorable. haha. puffed!

You've got prawns, RM6 per kg (about USD2 per kg)

Well, Mother's day is just around the corner, to be exact, this sunday.. another two more days to go.. Satay? Sate?

Morning to everyone in the world of blogging - bloggers and everyone else.. :)

Again..., apologies to all for such a delay in posting.. I cant say i have been busy and have no time (coz well, there's all the time in the world), its just that i havent been out on food hunts and seriously, i have really nothing to show the world on food. haha.. well, plus am really cutting down on weight, have been feeling really unhealthy lately, shortness of breath and so forth. Well, for future post, i will try posting up on other news because, seriously.. i have no food pictures left! haha.. :)

Back to the main story, Do you know about Satay?

Well, malaysians would know, Indonesians and Thai's would know too. I believe that the whole world should be exposed to this yummy treat by now.

The origin of this dish is REALLY debatable as everyone claims to be the ones that invented it. Some say that it originated from the Straits of Chinese (either Malaysia or Singapore) and that this dish actually suppose to consist of 3 (THREE) pieces of meat stacked upon each other on a stick. In chinese, it is called SA-TEH (as in 3 pieces). It is later then modified by the Malays as they cant really pronounce the word well, it became SATAY or SATE.. :)

How did it get to the other part of the world? Well, back in the early 17th and 19th century, the Netherlanders brought this dish back and now its a part of their cuisine (some what known as kebabs).

Well, all these are arguable and i dont mean or want to offend anyone. Because i for once do not know where did satay originated from, and all i care is that its YUMMY!! :)

They're actually slightly smoked and cooked by the close heat.. The vendor usually fans the satay as sometime the heats gets closer to firing up..

Satay is usually served with a special gravy - a specially made peanut sauce and some diced cucumber (to detox the charred satay) and some packed/cubed rice (nasi himpit) :)

Hope you try this someday.. Really resembles kebabs (ooooHH, i love beef kebabs with bell peppers!!) haha.. enjoy!

Its nothing new i guess, everyone is having almost all types of cuisine over here in Malaysia or even every where around the world. :) Bibimbap (pronounced pi-bim-bap) is a korean dish, it literally means MIXED RICE.. well, i just don't really see anything special about it coz we have loads of MIXED rice over here. Its rather a common dish but the fact that this dish is served either hot or cold and eaten in a way that you HAVE to mix everything thoroughly together. Haha.. I know, the excitement in watching korean dramas and movies, really, it brings out the characters of the dramas/movies if you'd try eating it like them. haha.

In Korea, it's served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with 'namu;' (sauteed and seasoned vegetables) and 'gochujang' (chilli pepper paste). It is also accompanied by a raw or fried egg and sliced meat (beef). The vegetables commonly used over there are zucchini, daikon, bellflower roots and spinach or lettuce. There is actually a variety of bibimbap dishes - there is 'dolsot (stone pot) bibimbap' or even 'hoedeopbap' (served with a variety of fishes).

The Malaysian version is rather different because most Malaysians rarely eat zucchini (well, most of the Malaysians i know - coz its hard to get in East Malaysia, i cant say for West Malaysia, they have better markets for imported items..) instead they substitute it with cucumber, strips of carrots, strips of omellete or even raw egg accompanied by slices of chicken or beef. Food we can get here easily.

Its sunny here.. well, at least this morning the sky had finally poured for us.. :) It has been a long week with only sun.. and please oh please.. i need a break from this weather.. A few weeks back we even had haze..people were burning to ready their plots for farming and some were actually bush fires. Well, yes.. seriously.. i haven't been eating well because i have moved to Miri, my hometown and with no frens to go on the food hunt i used to go when i was in Kuching, im now officially alone and going on unfrequently on food hunts.. Oh how i miss kuching and the food and the frens! :)

Well.. i was digging some old digs i had, saw a picture i took of Crispy Noodle Vege style.. I used to eat there when Fook Khang Vege (near Hock Lee) was closed.. its just beside Fook Khang.. This is what i used to indulge.. (or perhaps more on the fried vegetarian dishes as well! haha.. I miss Anusyah dearly too..) Even it was about a year plus living with her, it was one of the best moments i cherished.. I love the company, the talks, the outings, and yes, i do love the vegetarian food - and no, its not because i had to eat vege when im with her.. i love the food. plus having her around really brings out more taste in vegetarian dishes.. Oh how i miss her so much.. :(

Well, this is not typical lunch actually. haha.. We were just bored of having the normal set meals so we ordered a few dishes.. and.. uhm.. i only liked the tom yam soup. :)

A simple layout for a simple restaurant. We use to have lunch here during working days. Its not really recommended but then again, who am i to complain. So far, the tom yam soup is delicious. I aint a fan of the other dishes tho. :)

Hey all, Can you guess what is this?

Would you believe me if i say this is the Sarawakian HazelNut? Hehehehe..

It sure taste like one! :)

The shell which is quite soft (left) and the Nut itself (right) which is really crunchy and is eaten straight away.

Its sold in the market like this for RM1 per basket..

Or even peeled for sale, for RM3 per basket..

The nut or locally called in Kenyah (mum's local language) as 'Juping'.

Its kind of a dark brownish colour with white spots on it.

You really actually need a scissors or knife to slightly cut the tip of because its quite fibre-ish and hard to slit with just your fingers/nail.

Once the slit is produced, you can just squeeze it with your hands and voila! the nut is out! hehe.. Enjoy the pics. Cheerios!

Sometimes when i dont have enough time to prepare breakfast at home, i would end up having breakfast with my colleagues or calling up mum to see whether she has free time from her school. hehe.. So, this would be one of the main menu from a chinese stall we use to go.. just nearby my house.. :) Enjoy the pics.

Typical mee kolok or noodle mixed in oil and minced meat, slices of meat and fried onions. Topped with wantan/wanton - seasoned minced meat packed up in flour packs. :)

This is one of my mum's favourite. Fried noodle soup. The noodle is first fried then plain soup is poured over it and it produces this colour coz it was pre-fried. The noodle is the 'big-fat-yellow' type and usually upon request, mum would ask for extra extra chinese wine in it.. :)

I was kinda scared today when i was with my superiors for site visit at one of the oil palm estate. The ride to the area took 1 hour and a half from Lutong.. haha.. but the ride was ok.. its just that the ride from the main road towards the inner parts of the estate was hell yeah bumpy... once we had reached the site, another OMG!! the smell of oil palm effuent.. hmmph! i cant describe the smell in any words... yuckkeehh!! bluek.. hahah.. but then again work is work.. haha.. after 1 to 2 hours inspecting the site, we headed off - gladly!!

and the highlight of the trip was lunch time!! oh mi goshh!! yummeh! we stopped by batu niah on the way back to miri site office.. hehe the lunch was awesome, enjoy the pics eh.. :)

Its good to be back in your own hometown especially when you are needed around by family. Working life is great here but one thing about Miri is that its NOT as GREAT as KUCHING.. wuahh.. i miss frens, clubs and the food there. But on the other hand, Miri is still a good place to sit back and relax. Things are great but being me, being MIRA.. food is always a medicine for my soul.. haha.. How does it work? I have no idea, as soon as i indulge.. there's a bulge! haha.. thats why i have a GREAT body eh? *winks!*

I have always been plumpy, chubby, fat since i was a kid.. but i went through a lot of change which was on an on and off basis.. when i feel like it, i will munch away, if not, u would hardly see me eat a bite.. its worse even when i had to be admitted in the hospital just because i dont have the urge to eat.. :( so.. im mira.. im me.. and i like being me.. no matter if i was fat or thin, i would still be me.. so, dont judge me just because of my cover babey.. coz when u do, u're missing out on a great adventure! :)

well, main story... Last nite i was pretty tired after getting ready dinner and cleaning up (but who am i to complain, coz.... my mum is a much more of a supermum than i am! she does everything without complaining..).. My lil sis was bugging me of wanting get some cupcakes ready.. it was her first time and i was supposed to teach her.. i was so busy watching 'SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE' on astro that i didnt pay any attention to her. Who knew she had already mixed flour and sugar together! hahaha..and she had the chocolate cake recipe instead of the cupcake.. hahaha.. i whisked away and readied em for her.. she decorated them with white chocolate, chocolate rice, chocolate chips however she liked em. she was happy enuff! haha.. she brought them to school and i know she'll be bragging about them to her frens! haha.. enjoy the pictures y'all! :)

Being me.. as usual. love to cook and watch ppl eating my food, there's no other fun or ecstasy in this world for me,

ive just gotta say, i love food, i love making em and i love watching ppl eating em.. heheh..

so here's a treat from me to all of my new colleagues! :)

im grateful and thankful to have this new job and i like the environment here and i thank all for

first.. place some mee hoon (or bee hoon or rice noodles) into your bowl,

how much noodles? - as much as u want, how big of a bowl? - as big as u want.. haha..

then garnish off the noodle by adding some bean sprouts.. (if you like.. )

some shrimps/prawn and shredded chicken meat..

some strips of egg..

some fried tofu/tauhu....

and then......... for the fantastic touch!!!

add the laksa gravy (which i made - special recipe!) its oily on the top layer so u have to stir pretty well before putting it in your bowl. :)

its actually a mixture prawn and chicken stock, with added 'mira's-special' laksa paste ingredient, coconut milk, some red chillies, and thats about it..

then to really finalise the preparation of laksa-eating. you HAVE to add this..

my ever so famous 'sambal' laksa..

blended dried chillies, red chillies (cili padi), some red onions and belacan! (shrimp paste!)

OOOooooooooHH.. *droolssss*

top it off with some spring onions and we're ready to go!

Im finally back in Miri, I managed to get a 0ne-year off for my thesis writing instead of quiting and pouring every single hardwork's sweat down the drain. I know, i know, but i did handed in my request to quit, masters work was getting too hard especially the writing part and i was very tensed up, so quiting was the only option i had, but then the uni was kind enough to grant me the year off.. :)

I had earlier on posted up about the catering service i had and the heaps of menu's that was planned for, i didnt manage to get pictures of all of the dishes i made that day because it was quite a rush.. :) christmas was fun and new year's was great as we celebrated it at a bar.. :) Happy new Year 2010 all, and wishing everyone a belated christmas as well.. :)

When i was younger, my parents would have an OPEN HOUSE, on Christmas day itself.. the 25th, after the midnite mass, we (well, at least me, as the only girl in the house - lil sis is still lil) would help with the cooking straight away - the peeling of potatoes, onions, u name it.. then as usual, the traditional Christmas which my family would have is waiting for guests to come and savour these;

Its been ages since my last post, Im sorry again n again for this.. apologiess to all. ;P

I have been busy up and down lately thinking of how to make some extra cash to survive, to enjoy and most importantly to live comfortably! :) Im gonna share a story here, and i have been thinking too.. this blog shud cut down the food a lil bit.. I AM growing a lil sideways these days.. :) haha.. :) besides, you are glancing thru MY crystal ball rite? so, i'll spice this blog a lil bit more.. for all of you readers out there! :p

I have been experiencing headaches recently and doctors have said that i might have hypertension --> but its uncertain with all the stress and unhealthy eating habits i have (munching titbits, eating salty food, irregular eating hours and etc).. i had made an attempt to try out a frens ongoing business.. a ONE time trial of MY LIFE!! pictures explains best.. enjoy.. :p

LEECHESSSSSSS

I went for a LEECH THERAPY!! or may i say more than ONE leech!!!

The therapy was conducted by BIOPHARMATECH company here in Kuching, and there was a free-trial basis for one day, so i thought what the heck.. lets do this! :) Fahriee, Cyril and Amiey were there too.. (Too bad i forgot to take a pic together! Hurm!!).. But they didnt really wanna try it out..

Here's a patient, wanting to end his migrain probs, he had two leeches on both forehead, he claimed to feel better after the therapy coz he was feeling better afterwards.

Foot accident which sought leech therapy.. :)

ANd crazy me, Anusyah and Eva!! who just wanted to try out this leeccccchiness! :)

First.. it was just the foot... huhuhu..

Then... the face... hahaha..

Go leeches!!!

So far i was quite dissatisfied with the speaker's confidence when speaking and explaining about the leech therapy. I had wished there was a medical officer around so that i would think twice of the matter. But knowing my friends and knowing that the company is a big deal here in Malaysia, so i calmed myself and just thought --> if i die due to this, then i will just go ahead and die! hahaha.. but seriously, i was scared shit before attempting this.. on normal days, each sickness, eg. migrain, stress etc cost rm60 with a minimum of 3 leeches for one treatment, so i thought again.. FREE trial? What the heck!!

Oh yeah, another advise for this new group of LEECH experts (recently opened in Satok area, above Samasa Travel Agency, Rubber Road, Kuching), PLEASE oh PLEASE, use gloves and at least handle the leeches with tweezers or something.. it freeeeaakss me out that you guys handle it with your bare hands.. huhu..

results? its been 24 hours now.. the bite mark on my leg still bleeds coz the diluting-property of the leech saliva is still active and the ones on my forehead had stopped to self-bleed.. so far so good.. my head feels bettter from the headache.. and my muscle pain on my foot is partially gone.. well... of course for better results frequent treatments are required.. but i guess this is enough for me...

this is me wit yummy durian! some of my orang putih or non-malaysian frens dont like the taste of durians merely coz of its smell.. i dont get it, dont they smell awesome??? hehe.. its durian season here in sarawak.. usually nearing the end of the year.. my n my hubby drove all the way to Serian to get some..and gosh, they were huge!! like one part for one whole fleshy durian.. yumm!!! enjoy the pics!

DIY Roasted Chicken! Happy Deepavali!

A simple feast, home made, always special and feels rite at home wit this home cookin.. haha.. enjoy the post..

Roasted Chicken with special marinade, served with roasted button mushrooms, carrots, tomatoes and potatoes with special marinade as well...

All you need is...
1. whole chickie..
2. carrots
3. potatoes
4. button mushrooms
4. marinating sauce (2 big onions, 1 clove garlic, red chillies, 5 red onions, some ginger, dried chillies, sesame oil, blackpepper sauce, some sugar and salt)

marinate overnight, and put em to roast ladies! :)

~before.. put em on a tray.. pour some marinade sauce on top just to cover off.. :) ~

Was back in miri for some family matters and to take some time off, so was sending mum to work and before that we had a breakfast, a quickie one, well, maybe this aint something new to some of you..but it was my first time trying out this special hand made noodle.. was so damn interested in the noodle maker.. or noodle machine.. hehe..was thinking to myself, 'can make my own spaghetti!!! hehehe..'

hand made noodle, served with local vege (cangkuk manis), some anchovies (ikan bilis), dried fish paste and some minced meat.. :)

Taste was not bad, was A++ for me as the noodles was tasty enough on its own.. :) enjoy, a bowl like this was served with a some soup on the side and chilli paste or 'sambal', costed up to rm4 per set.. worth it.. :)

Here's a quickie on the rwmf of 2009. i know.. i know.. most of u, or all of u just cant wait to be there.. haha.. like every year, this event is a number thingy in kuching, sarawak.. and so, i give all my thumbs, fingers and toes up for this event! (wonder how i'd looked like...hahaha). come and join the fun gang! lets go!!! hehe.. i wanna shake2 and dance2 and just have fun! :)

Wow.. i just cant wait for the upcoming Rainforest World Music Fest... (Despite all the case on Swine Flu... :(.. the gov says to have 'faith' in them.. so for the sake of rwmf! im gonna be there again this year! :) hehehhe..)

With the help of Mr. Cyril Dason, im so so so so so so glad that i got the 3 day pass for only rm180! instead of the usual rm250 price available for all. (jangan jealous ye! hehe.. )

Aileen has been working with me (research on razor clams of Sarawak) since my undergraduate studies till now.. She will be finishing her masters soon and im hoping to graduate by August next year too!

last nite we had dinner together, had a late nite at the lab so, the closest stall was the only resort! haha.. this was what we had.. a birthday dinner? hehe.. enjoy the post..

(however, i did ate vegetarian curry laksa in Kuala Lumpur, it was great too! almost similar to this one, but still sarawak laksa is the best for me!)

love the sweet n sour gravy, topped off with seafood! yummy prawns! :p u gotta try this!

This one is fruit rojak.. where all the fruits are mixed in a shrimp paste gravy + groundnuts..

Char kueh..
basically wheat flour + glutinous rice cakes stir fried with egg and salted carrots.. dash off with chilli pepper... Yum!

Laksa Power & Cendol Pulut in LANGKAWI Island

Its a moving stall.. haha.. nice one..
i dont see them much in sarawak..
there is one actually behind my rental here in samarahan..
a peninsular guy selling nasi lemak.. i guess the moving-stalls idea came from peninsular..

LAKSA POWER 3! wow!
even the name is so GRAND.. three times the power ok..!

this is laksa power..
its VERY different from the laksa in sarawak as sarawakians use shrimp paste and coconut milk which is left to simmer..
this one or rather the peninsular version of laksa uses fish essence? or can i say they boil the fish till its mashed up and the whole gravy is fishy.. hehe..
the noodle is the white, thick type and it is garnished with shredded cucumber, boiled egg and some greens.

haaa.. this is cendol pulut..
my previous post on ABC is very similar to this..
HOWEVER, ive NEVER tried the version with lots more cocnut milk and addition of glutinous rice in the cold delight..
this was the first time ive ever tried this.. its very milky, very sweet and i did felt it was quite odd or ackward to add 'pulut' rice in the delight.. :)
but all in all, very tasty.

PARAGON was heaven in travillion, not bad for a new club..
the dance floor was ok coz u get to dance in ur own space by ur seat.. i mean its much 'spacier' than other clubs there..
BUT!!!
NO ONE DANCED!! fooh.. so we left.. and had to dance elsewhere..

During my first conference in Langkawi (International Conference on Marine Ecosystems 09) at Awana Porto Malai Resort.., we had a BBQ Conference Dinner on the second nite. It was a blast, something different from normal and i was glad that it was HAPPENING! hehe.. there were loads of food, t'was buffet style, ranging from chinese to indian to malay to western food.. it was great, there were 2 huge roast lambs on fire.. (but was too full to had any.. ) there were grilled crabs, shrimps.. aaaahhh, it was definitely a meal to die for.

however, forgive me for not being able to get more pictures, the place was so packed with fooh.. everyone, from everywhere.. attending an international conference was one of my greatest pleasure ever.. being first timer and all.. wow.. the response and the people you meet, really fascinating! i had made a few friends from vietnam.. cyprus.. iran.. india.. canadian.. oh woow... everywhere! plus i was a bit on the shy side on wandering off taking photos with my humble cam.... hahaha.. guess im still a shy foodie! :p enjoy some of the dessert pics i have.. tata..

We had our vegetarian delight once again at FOok Khang Vege Restaurant, price range Rm6 to 10 for every dish. I especially love the fried rice as it was dry (not oily at all) and the broccoli was seriously my favourite of all times.
